Quiz answer for last week
An anabatic wind flows upwards towards the higher ground at the top of the land mass. This is likely to occur later in the day when the land is warmed by the sun and hence the warmer air rises causing the air near sea level to move towards the land and giving an onshore breeze. The reverse is likely to happen in late evening or overnight as the land cools and with the sea retaining its warmth giving a katabatic or offshore wind.
Obviously the onshore breeze is the more dangerous as it may cause you to be blown towards the land. This is known as a lee shore as everything is taken as a reference from the vessel. In this case the land is on the leeward side of the boat.
Visitors are welcome on any Thursday club night held at the VBS Community Stadium
