Maggie Adamson talk

Maggie Adamson, Shetlander, Commercial Skipper. Professional Musician and volunteer Lifeboat Crew with the Lerwick Lifeboat coming along to do her second talk with us, and she's never far from her fiddle so no doubt we'll get a few tunes as well as some sailing stories.  This year she’s taken some time out from skippering The Swan and will be at the helm of Gavin Howe’s Swan 76 Tigris for charter trips around the UK and surrounding waters.  Maggie has replaced one Swan with another, and I’m sure the second will be a tad more luxurious than the first!  I'm looking forward to hearing her latest news, and hopefully will hear a bit about the Tall Ships last year which The Swan took part in.  Incidentally, The Swan has been announced as Sail Training Vessel of the Year by UK Sail Training and the MCA, a great accolade both for The Swan, Maggie, and everyone involved.

Printing along the River Wandle

Hear about the process of block printing that was used by the calico print works along the River Wandle. This includes the Morris Works and Liberty Print Works. After viewing a film showing how block printing was done there will be an opportunity to handle original Liberty blocks and the tools used. This will be followed by a talk looking at a selection of patterns and designs produced by the printers. To close the workshop each attendee will have an opportunity to produce they own print using Morris inspired blocks.

As a boating community we enjoy getting out on the water and experiencing the beautiful environment around us. We therefore play an important role in helping to protect our marine and inland waters to safeguard the wildlife and habitats with which we share our boating environment.
